TERMS OF USE
Last updated 3 November 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Le Syndicat SHIFT_ (“Clearday”, “we”, “us”), a company based in Montréal, Québec, which operates Clearday at cleardaygotyou.com and in the Clearday apps. By joining the waitlist, creating an account or using Clearday, you accept these terms and our privacy policy.
Clearday is not yet launched. Today only the waitlist is open. The rest of these terms apply to each part of the service as it becomes available to you.
Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have under the Québec Consumer Protection Act or any other consumer protection law that applies to you.
1. What Clearday is
Clearday is a marketplace for paying real, verified bills. An asker lists one of their own bills. Backers and patrons fund it. When the bill is fully funded, Clearday pays the biller directly.
- Money only goes to billers. Clearday never pays an asker, a wallet, a gift card or any other person.
- Pledges are not donations. Clearday is not a registered charity, pledges are not tax-deductible and we don’t issue tax receipts.
- Clearday is not a bank, a lender or a financial adviser, and doesn’t guarantee that any bill will be funded.
2. Who can use Clearday
- You must be at least 18 years old and live in Canada. At launch, bills are limited to the Greater Montréal area.
- You may have only one account. The information you give us must be true and kept up to date.
- You are responsible for keeping your sign-in secure and for activity on your account. Tell us right away at support@shiftsyndicate.ca if you think someone else has used it.
- Askers and patrons must verify their identity through our identity partner before listing a bill or running a patron rule.
3. Listing a bill (askers)
- You may list only a bill in your own name, for a service to your own household, with a biller we support. The name on the bill must match your verified identity.
- You may have one live bill at a time, within the per-bill and 12-month limits shown in the app.
- Everything you submit must be true, complete and unaltered. You authorize us to confirm the biller, amount, account and due date with the biller and our verification partners, and to share what they need for that.
- We decide whether a bill goes live, and we may decline or remove a bill at any time, for example if it can’t be verified.
- Backers will see your first name and last initial, your area, the biller, the amount, the due date, your note and how much is funded. Account numbers are masked to the last four digits.
- Notes are limited to 240 characters and are reviewed before they go live. They must not identify or shame anyone, include contact details or pressure backers.
- Listing a bill doesn’t guarantee it will be funded. Keep paying your bills as usual until we confirm payment, and keep your biller informed. We aren’t responsible for late fees, interruptions or collection activity if a bill isn’t funded or is paid late by the biller.
- When a bill is paid, you must not ask the biller to refund or transfer that payment to you. If a biller returns or credits an overpayment, it goes back to the backers, not to you.
4. Funding a bill (backers)
- You choose an amount, at least the minimum shown in the app. A Clearday fee (currently $1.00 per pledge) is added on top. The amount, the fee and the total are shown before you pay. The bill receives 100% of your pledge; Clearday pays card processing costs from its own funds.
- Funding is all or nothing. Your pledge is held in a segregated account at a Canadian bank until the bill is fully funded and every pledge on it is final, then paid to the biller.
- Every bill has a fund-by date, a few business days before its due date so the payment reaches the biller on time. If a bill isn’t fully funded by that date, or is removed or can’t be paid, your pledge is refunded to your original payment method, or moved to a similar bill if you chose that option. The fee is refunded with it.
- Once you press PLAY, your pledge is committed to that bill and can’t be cancelled, except as described here or where the law gives you a right to cancel.
- Bank-debit (PAD) and Bounce pledges count only once they settle, which can take up to five business days.
- Please contact us before disputing a pledge with your bank. Disputes that are made in bad faith may lead us to suspend your account.
- After a bill is paid, you receive the biller’s confirmation and a receipt.
5. Patron rules
Patrons can set rules (for example, a category, a region, an amount ceiling and a monthly cap) under which pledges are made for them. You are responsible for the rules you set, and every rule must have a cap. The Operator may suggest matches, but nothing is pledged beyond what you approve or what your rule allows. Patron plans and their prices are shown before you subscribe, and you can change or stop a rule at any time for future pledges.
6. Payments and payment partners
Payments are processed in Canadian dollars by our payment partners, including Stripe, our Interac partner and Bounce. Their terms also apply when you use them. We don’t store full card numbers. We may refuse, hold or reverse a payment that we reasonably believe is fraudulent, unauthorized or against these terms.
7. The Operator and AI
Clearday uses artificial intelligence, including the Operator, our in-app assistant, to read bills, suggest matches and answer questions. AI can make mistakes. Its answers are for information only and aren’t financial, legal or tax advice. AI never moves money: a pledge happens only when you press PLAY, or under a patron rule you set with a cap. Our privacy policy explains how AI uses your information.
8. Proof on chain and receipt tokens
Clearday records fingerprints of bills, receipts and its daily ledger on a public blockchain as proof that money went to billers. Receipt tokens are proof of payment only. They can’t be sold, transferred or redeemed, have no monetary value and are not an investment.
9. What you must not do
- List a fake, altered or inflated bill, or a bill that isn’t yours.
- Use Clearday to get cash or value back from a bill payment, or arrange to be repaid off the platform.
- Fund your own bill, or coordinate with others to fund each other’s bills.
- Use stolen or unauthorized payment methods, or use Clearday for money laundering or any other illegal purpose.
- Contact, pressure or harass askers or backers, or try to identify them.
- Impersonate anyone, or use the name or image of a real public figure.
- Interfere with the service: scraping, automated access without our permission, probing our security, or trying to manipulate the Operator or other AI.
We may remove content, refuse or reverse pledges and suspend or close accounts that break these rules, and report illegal activity to the authorities.
10. Your content
You keep ownership of what you submit, such as notes and bill images. You give Clearday a non-exclusive licence to use it only to operate, verify, secure and improve the service, as described in our privacy policy. You confirm you have the right to submit it.
11. Our property
The Clearday name, wordmark, stripes, design, software and content belong to Clearday or its licensors. You may use the service for its intended purpose, but you may not copy, modify or reuse them without our written permission.
12. Closing your account
You can close your account at any time from your account settings or by writing to admin@shiftsyndicate.ca. Pledges already made are handled as described in section 4, and a live bill is withdrawn and its pledges refunded.
We may suspend or close an account, or remove a bill, if you break these terms, if we must for legal or security reasons, or to protect other users. Unless the law or an investigation prevents it, we will tell you why and how to contact us about it. We keep the records the law requires after an account is closed.
13. Availability and responsibility
We work to keep Clearday available and accurate, but the service may be interrupted for maintenance or reasons beyond our control. Billers decide when payments post to their accounts; we set fund-by dates so that payments reach them on time, but we can’t control their processing.
To the extent the law allows, Clearday is not liable for indirect losses, or for losses caused by billers, payment partners or events beyond our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for our intentional or gross fault, for bodily or moral injury, or any liability that consumer protection law does not allow us to exclude.
14. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we will send you a notice by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect, written clearly and showing the new and old wording. If you don’t accept the change, you can close your account without cost or penalty before it takes effect.
15. Law, disputes and language
These terms are governed by the laws of Québec and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be heard by the courts of the judicial district of Montréal, unless the law gives you the right to bring it where you live. There is no arbitration clause and nothing here limits your right to take part in a class action.
Please contact us first; most issues can be resolved quickly.
These terms are available in French and English, and both versions have equal force.
